Usually its use to stick just below the level controller or and label what that channel is connected to. Say Vocal u can write the person's name. So as everyone has their own loudness and by knowing what mic their using and its sensitivity, it is sensibly to make any needed adjustment to mix them well. For drums being mic in, with individual channels you may write snare, tom 1 (T1), tom 2 (T2).

2. Get Paper and Pen
As long as you have something to write own like a note pad will also do. Write down who is using what microphone and what channel it is linked to. This would probably help especially when the mic has different sensitivity or is connected to different pre-amps and channels. E.g
Name Mic Pre-Amp Channel
Ronald SM-58 Yamaha XXX 3
Roland EW 135 G3 Mixer 5
Snare SM-57 Mixer 6
Tom 1 AKG D5 Mixer 7
Of course you can create your own kind of table to suit your needs. The whole point is just to record whats goes to what. Creating a list also helps identify which mic may need phantom power +48V or not.
